Safeguarding Workshop in Nadi

The third Regional Safeguarding Workshop, facilitated by the Oceania Impact Network, was held in Nadi, Fiji.

The event brought together over 80 delegates from across the Pacific region. Keynote addresses were delivered by esteemed speakers, including Kate Coffey, Australian Government representative from the Pacific Sports Section in DFAT, Liz Dawson, Chairperson of the ONOC Equity Commission, and Alison Davidian, Representative from UN Women.

The workshop provided a platform for representatives from Team Up partners, National Olympic Committees, regional and national NGOs, sporting organizations, and other stakeholder groups to engage in critical discussions. Central to the agenda was the exploration of strategies to enhance safety and inclusivity in sports across the Pacific.

Rosabel Tuatagaloa, Sports Development Coordinator for Netball Samoa, represented us at the event. The Samoa delegation also included representatives from the following Team Up partners in market: Rugby League, Rugby Union, Cricket, Football and Samoa Victims Support Group.

Over the past six months, Rosabel has played a pivotal role in coordinating safeguarding and umpiring workshops for secondary school teachers, fundamental movement and skills clinics, age-group coaching sessions, and tournaments focused on Safe Sports. Her efforts have also encompassed capacity-building initiatives for coaches and umpires, as well as the onboarding of up to 20 participants for ADF workshops, which included essential first aid training.

“Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and the safety of our children and vulnerable individuals is in our hands. We should not take that responsibility for granted” says Miss Tuatagaloa.
